The marketplace network we own and operate
Local Internet Holdings currently owns and operates 99 active marketplaces, in operation since 2015 and built around business participation and local discovery.
Each marketplace keeps its own identity, listings and functionality. They are not yet connected to a shared record system.
Business self-placement and participation
Businesses place their own listings directly on the marketplaces. Local Internet Holdings reports more than 7 million self-placed listings over the life of the network; this figure is pending source reconciliation.
Self-placed listings are submitted by businesses; they are not independently verified, deduplicated across marketplaces or governed as shared records.
Historical scale and operating experience
Marketplace operations since 2015 taught us how local businesses participate, what they need from a listing and where independent systems fall short.
Listing totals describe the history of the marketplace network. They are not current operating metrics of The Local Core.
Lessons learned from independent marketplaces
The same business could appear many times across marketplaces, with no single record to correct.
Ownership was difficult to confirm, and outdated listings had no clear path to removal.
Every marketplace maintained its own data, so improvements in one never reached the others.
The evolution into The Local Internet and The Local Core
The Local Core is the shared infrastructure that answers those lessons: one structured Business Record per business, verified ownership, governed publication and distribution.
Local Internet Holdings is preparing to market The Local Core and The Local Internet across its existing marketplace network. Independent marketplaces keep their identities while connecting to the broader network.
Historical listings and today's governed Business Records
Historical listings were self-placed on independent marketplaces. Business Records are created, reviewed and published under The Local Core's governance rules.
No historical listing has been migrated, verified, deduplicated or published into The Local Core. Any future migration would be a controlled initiative: eligible listings reviewed first, nothing published automatically.

Planned
Potential listing migration
A future, controlled initiative: eligible listings would be reviewed, deduplicated and approved before becoming Business Records. No migration is active or completed.

From independent marketplaces to connected local infrastructure.
Historical listing totals are not a count of current, verified or migrated Business Records. Marketplace integration and listing migration are planned initiatives.
